Fleeting Landscapes

I was in a snow blizzard this morning and now from my window I see blue skies and sunshine.  Just one of the many things that I love about Scotland.

Scottish artists can't help be preoccupied with the landscape. The ever-changing moods create such a spectrum of colour and light on a daily basis that alters the familiar landscape in front of them.

Sandy Murphy RSW RGI PAI

This can't help but inspire an artist who is a lover of colour, or of tone or of mood.  The landscape has it all, but if you don't capture it, it will be gone.  You can't even be sure that you weren't the only one who saw it!

Marion Thomson

All of the artists featured here are Smithy Gallery favourites, and none of them are solely landscape painters,  but look what the landscape has inspired them to do.

Victoria Maxwell MacDonald

What I love is how distinctive each painting is.  For me, it is a true artist who can interpret their subject matter whilst giving of themselves at the same time.

Laura Harrison

Of course it doesn't hurt that Scotland is one of the most beautiful places on the planet, but maybe we shouldn't complain about the weather so much!

Thanks for reading!
